no confidence

in Cllr Hartley - a motion is to be moved to this effect. Because he either lied to the council. Or misled it by not checking his facts. Interestingly this was about the council's actions, or lack of them, to help stop bullying. Which is something Cllr Hartley knows a lot about.

A fair wind for the motion, I trust. All present and voting.

Cllr Hartley couldn't even be bothered to pay his car tax while he was a parliamentary candidate, leaving his car to add to the many untaxed cars littering the streets of Newtown, remember.

In the name of God, go.

Councillor Hartley certainly knows a lot about lack of action as he's the laziest Councillor in Reading. People in Park ward know not to bother going to him with anything as he never does anything.

Anonymous. Amongst staff working for Jane in her office there was a table of hardest working and most frequently complained about Councillors and the bottom three of the former and top three, pretty much joint leaders, for doing nothing and being complained about were Steve Waite who left Caversham just before it went Tory, John Howarth whose Park seat went Tory for the first time in about twenty years when he ran away and Jon Hartley.

Seems not much has changed for the boy who forgot to pay his car tax and was the candidate for Basingstoke, how he managed to lose that seat I'll never know, even the Tory MP for the seat had given up on it until Hartley hit his stride.

John Howarth did his ward cases efficiently and effectively whatever you think about him otherwise. Jon Hartley cut the Tory majority in Basingstoke from 2400 to 800 against the national trend. And has topped the poll in Park Ward every time he stood since the mid-Nineties. But why let facts get in the way of a few vendettas?

Anonymous, I would be interested to know what information you have to back up your claim about Mr Howarth's efficiency and effectiveness? My experience is of the feedback from their constituents to the MPs office. Now obviously any person who does not get what they want says their councillor/MP or whatever representative didn't do anything when they might have done a lot of work but just not achieved what the constituent wanted. I'm not talking about the amount of work that Howarth might have claimed he did, just the feedback from the constituents. Why was it that his, Waites and Hartley's were the most frequent complainers about not returning calls, not taking up work and not doing anything about their concerns? Some would have been the unhappy people I mentioned above but I'm talking about feedback from real people, not my own feelings about the people. What does yours come from?

As for Hartley, yes he might have done. The MP for the Seat said he thought it was gone and had given up until Hartley started campaigning and that then he thought he had a chance of winning it. Again, as a result of feedback from people in Basingstoke. So, Hartley might have done what he did, the point is he could have done better, he could have been the Labour MP for the seat. Is he? Did he put in the effort and fight the campaign he could have done? I want to see as many Labour MPs elected as possible. I want every seat to have a Labour MP so I am not happy when it fails to happen where there should be a Labour MP. I believe Hartley let Labour down in Basingstoke.

anon 13.53, would you say it is more of a question he does things wrong ( look at record) than "he never does anything". Mind you, don't know which is worse!!!

anon 12.48, you are joking! Hartley boy got in by the skin of his teeth last time barely 20 votes. What does that tell you? Next time...
