by whose authority

did Lovelock, who was sworn in as leader of the council on the last occasion for such a thing to happen, decide to relinquish that office and go into opposition?  What minute of a council meeting records such a vote?  There may well be such a meeting, next week I imagine, but there has not been one.  This is abuse of office.  A vote needs to be taken. A Cabinet needs to be appointed.  The new Reading Cabinet should be interesting.

Labour gained many councils at the recent elections. Reading was an exception to this swing.

All the candidates for the national leadership are talking about connecting with the voters. There needs to be some connecting with the people in Reading.

Well - whoever embarks upon that ambitious project, it won't be Labour.
The Reading Labour Party conducted an exercise in 'connecting' with Reading people by de-selecting the popular Reading East Labour MP ( who had increased the majority of this non-key seat in 2001) and replacing her with a convicted sex offender.

Labour lost the seat.
In 2010, the Reading Labour Party 'connected' with the people of Reading by fielding, as Reading East candidate, a type of tame female house-pet - chained to the ankles of the Fraudster's Friend and infrequently let out ( when not at the vet's in Bristol) to lap at the ankles of Martin Salter.

Result:Labour third.
Something faulty in the connection circuitry, methinks?

And your next trick?

The only thing I would like to connect the Reading Labour Party to is the National Grid.

Forget Lovelock - whoever or whatever that grain of dust is! The hot news from the People's Palace is that the fab Nigel Evans is to stand for the role of Deputy Speaker!

ALso up for selection, is Labour veteran, Lindsay Hoyle, now seeking a new berth as buckets and spades at Morecombe have sprung a permanent leak.
Good luck to Lindsay - but lets wave the flags for Nigel!
A man before his time, Nigel was one of the founding memebers of the Richard Parker Club - forerunner of Coalition Days and daring to think the unthinkable - a Labour/Tory axis!!

Let's hear it for God, Harry, Nigel and St George!!
( or something. Ed).

Understand the portly Ian Dale has broken the good news.

Is it true that his nickname is 'Queen of Puddings'?

He has a well known penchant for chomping on a Huntley and Palmer shortbread finger.

'When it was still illegal'[?].Surely it still is?As for 'exposing oneself in a public place'that, too, covers a multitude of sins:ask Mr Powers.

Some Lib Dem somewhere blurred the legislative edges prior to the 2005 General Election with regard to sex in bogs.
But as I gather, Page propositioned a cop with his 'assets'.
Correct me if I'm wrong - and somewhere Gerald Kaufmann's office overlooking a House of Commons car park came into it.

Mr Kaufmann was not present at the time - or, indeed, on premises.
