Five years fixed term. Well - that has now clarified a decision.
I shall be returning after a break - and for a different place - after the next election.
I will be interested to see how the leadership contest plays out in the South-East.Understand Harriet Harman was a favorite for some leading lights.Apparently one prospective, and on the day failed councillor, wants to be her campaign mamager in the S.E but has been rebuffed on grounds that he has a rather salacious reputation.Even if the rep is undeserved it seems he is a potential embarrsassment..
Harriet is not standing. She saw what happened to Margaret Beckett in 1994 - M lost the Deputy Leadership as well. H is preserving what she has got. Sad, because I would have loved to see her stand - but understandable in the present climate.

Thank God we are spared Yvette Cooper.
