Reading Borough elections

not clear that Labour can take control of Reading, though they are now the largest party.  The Green mostly voted with them, and his new colleague (who trashed Basher hahahahahahahaha yippee!) will probably do as she is told and do the same.  Will it be a Labour/Green coalition with Was holding the balance of power?  Oh joy.  Srsly though peeps, the stables had only just started to be cleaned - the corrupt little clique must not be allowed back.  If they are, the cover-ups and corruption will continue.  Jan Gavin is their stooge, and so is Kelly Edwards.  So is John Ennis.  Maskell, the horrid fat man, interestingly, is not.  His daughter Sarah Hacker is too boring for anyone to bother with.  Any politician who will tweet that she is back to normal now her Dad has won the election and is going to McDonald's for lunch... anyway, the text message from Salter and Sutton, which I am reliably informed is genuine and not a Tory spoiler, should serve as a warning.  They have not gone away.

If Labour would like to contact me the independent councillor on Reading Borough council about forming a coalition,

On the other hand, I'm not expecting a call! ;0)

If Labour have 22 seats and work with the greens who have 2, how does Swine hold the balance of power? That would leave 1, 5 and 16 (22). Which of us cannot count?

Goody gum drops .. I have 538 reasons to never have to read this diatribe again. But first, before I remove your URL, I must record my thanks.

the pleasure is all mine, and thanks for reading. Last time Redlands had Labour councillors they were swept away on a tide of public opprobrium because of the fraud and criminality connived at by then party chair Singleton-White. You have been elected because the LibDems are currently unpopular, and you have a great responsibility to show the electorate that there has been a change, and that Reading Labour has returned to clean politics. The lies published in your election leaflets did not inspire confidence that you are part of that change. Are you ready for that responsibility? If you choose to accept it the task will not be easy - continuing in the corrupt old ways will be easy - at first.

Labour may have got lucky this year thanks to Swine screwing up Katesgrove and Bayes/ St Daisy Redlands. They can't run the same campaign next year (though they should beat whoever the Libs put up to replace Swine). The choreographed blogs just made them look like robots without a braincell to rub together between them

Looking at the results on TV I see that it was only for a third of the seats.
So is there another election next year or is it 3 years out of 4?

I see that you have now changed the entry to correct your obvious error. If it was a joke, why amend the post? eh?

Nice jab in the eye from Jan G! The fact you carry it on the strap line of your blog shows that you have no sense of irony - or humour.

janestheone said...

No, I haven't changed anything. Ms Gavin's remark was foolish in the extreme, and she should learn that when in public life people will comment, and your own comments will be made use of, that is why I put her words on the strap line of my blog. I am of course flattered that my blog was part of her Favourites, hers was not one of mine. To L9, yes, it is by thirds, three years out of four.

Jane has a highly developed sense of humour. I refer you to :

The big one ( Atticus), Woman on Top, (Screws),How much do you charge?, (Mail on Sunday).

For a taster.

Jan, congratulations on being elected. I hope you enjoyed nthe night of your first election win, othing really beats it.

But, you silly girl, being talked about doesn't stop on your election. Having to be aware that everything you say to any person could end up here, another blog or in the media. You are now a public person you will be talked about, everything you say can be used against you, partcularly by your enemies on your own side. Get used to it.

Yes - the tough and scaley rhino hide is the mark of the successful politian.

Weepy wet-knickers should resort to embroidery instead.

How do you know Kelly is a stooge? I don't think you know her. Kelly, Rachel (you don't know her either) and Mike make a good team in Whitley.

You are often accurate on those you know, but you are only guessing about those you do not know.

In some wards Common Sense did better than either the LibDems or the Greens.

Their opportunist leader jumped in and charmed some decent people who had been verbally abused by Page, Willis and Baxter.

janestheone said...

anon 2145 I know Reading Labour and I know how some people behave in public even if I do not know them personally. I am quite sure that the Whitley councillor team is a good one, I have no reason to doubt that and have not said anything about it. So your problem is? Rachel Eden is being pushed forward for REading West as I am sure yeou know, and the boys would not do that unless they were sure she would do as she was told. They have stiffed other potential candidates for nothing worse than having a mind of their own.

Anonymous said...

Kelly Edwards isn't bright enough to be a stooge. She will, though, make Rachel Eden look like a genius by comparison.

"They have stiffed other potential candidates for nothing worse than having a mind of their own." We are talking about local Labour Party right??? Just wondering...
As for anon 11:19, too true. Readily available pics identify "embroidery" candidates. Seem to recall one of Sutton shedding a tear ?? If so, hey it could have been out of joy! No more "moronic" people to deal with! Puh. Looked well at the count. A comeback on the horizon? Fellow Tony Jones looks all set for one, according to his blog. The Red Army on the move. Impressive.

“I have 538 reasons to never have to read this diatribe again.” Why did she read it in the first place then? No-one was making her, surely? She didn’t have to bother herself. I’m not entirely sure she is quite aware of where she is, what is going on around her, etc, so I wouldn’t call those recent statements lies, just imaginings. An “...experienced campaigner and community activist” she might be, but she is also properly, fascinatingly bonker.

Anon2041 – Labour may need to look elsewhere on some issues, with transport being pretty obvious given their track record. Where to then?

Anonymous said...

Yup -- exactly Jane. And they stiffed an MP, lost the seat and then lost the other one.

This is what they do.

East of Eden will go the same way as Anneliese -- who her?!!

The comments about women councillors on this blog - Green, Labour and LibDem - makes me understand why it is hard to attract women into politics. Meow! Catty or what!? Your view seems to be that any woman in Reading politics is a stooge, incapable of standing up to the men or thinking for themselves. Anyway, glad to see you giving the new councillors a chance to show their mettle; oh wait, you seem to have rubbished them before they've even taken their seats. Nothing like giving someone a chance. Isn't it about time you got over the whole deselection thing? I know you think you were deselected by some male conspiracy led by Salter and Sutton because you wouldn't do as you were told, but seriously, it was because you were crap at your job and pissed people off.

janestheone said...

Oh, that job, ages ago? do remind me. what did I do that was crap, and how did I piss people off? Let's have some specifics here, hein? Popularity with the electorate obviously not an issue here. Looking forward to receiving some detail of your assertion. Thanks for reading.

Last Anonymous is a spiteful cry-baby -- .Catty or what? Crap at your job or what?

Such comments are certainly what we would call 'bitchy'. Did you make them, Rache? Or who wrote them for you?

As for 'Why aren't women attracted into politics' etc - it is because STRONG women get pissed on from a great height by bully males and female stooges. The only woman that Labour wants in the Commons is a weak one. A good old milksop! SO - hey RACHE!! Westminster glory beckons!!

A life chained to the heel of Singlet Spotted, locked in the attic and fed crumbs by the likes of Salter. WOW! Compare notes with Anneliese!

I think your last post has answered your own question.

My comments were not written by or for Cllr. Rachel Eden, who I have never met.

I just feel that you veer from assuming that all women (except yourself, of course) are either complicit or incapable when it comes to politics in Reading. My view is that there are plenty of excellent women candidates and councillors - from all parties - and that we should be encouraging more to be involved not 'putting the boot in' before they've even done anything. Standing for election isn't easy and anyone who does deserves some respect - at least until they've done something that deserves some comment! It is possible that the new Green councillor, for example, won't just do as Rob White tells her, so why not wait and see rather than assuming..? I have met Janet Gavin and I have to say, she doesn't seem like the sort of person who would get bullied by anyone. I may be wrong, but I will give her the benefit of the doubt until she's done something to show me otherwise.

I have no desire to go into specfics again - we've discussed them before - many years ago - and you disagree. I haven't changed my mind and you haven't changed yours. My opinion is that you deserved to be deslected, that it was about performance and not gender and that there was no conspiracy. Either way, in 1997, I cheered when you were elected because unlike you, it seems, I prefer to give people a chance.

I don't think we have had answers to questions and we need to have them.

Exactly HOW was Jane 'crap' at her job and HOW did she 'piss people off'?

What is never mentioned is that before becoming the PPC and then MP for Reading East, Jane spent many years workign in the lcoal Labour Party and latterly on the council as a Labour councillor. She clearly wasn't regarded as crap at hrr job then and didn't piss people off -- otherwise there was no way she would have been selected as PPC for Reading East.

So WHAT is supposed to have changed so radically that she was even de-selected as the MP - by the very same people with whom she worked so happily for many years and who indeed, selcted her as the PPC?

WHAT?

Anon 2147 (8 May), please do some research before you open your mouth. We did not stand for the Common Sense party because we “had been verbally abused by Page, Willis and Baxter” but because they all got together with Cumpsty and wrecked our local economy and environment in their ceaseless pursuit of taxpayers’ money regardless of the consequences for the community. We have shown Councillors since November 2008 that PBA’s surveys were unethical, that the plan lacked predictive traffic modelling, that it was approved without proper social, economic or environmental assessments and that its justification was not technical but political and dogmatic, a retaliation for “proposed developments in WBC” (the Senior Planner’s words, not mine); but neither Labour nor Tory would listen. The Head of Transport’s reluctance to re-instate our roundabouts for fear of being prosecuted on “safety grounds” is not just laughable, but thoroughly unprofessional. Political greed and corruption are destroying Reading’s future and all you can do is bicker amongst yourselves. You left those of us who support or are still members of the Labour Party (in spite of it all) no option but to look elsewhere for representation. Why do I have to spell this out for you, anyway? It’s not rocket science!
The Tories ignored a 4,400+ petition last November at their peril. The 3 Labour gains are in the 3 Wards which were originally scheduled for the “A327 corridor” treatment. Please contact STAG if you wish to learn more about this issue. We have documentation spanning over 2 years and wish to establish a forum for discussion. Honest politicians are welcome!
Luis.

I do know Janet Gavin and I have seen what she has done, in her former "professional" life as a teacher, in which she was involved in some VERY murky goings on at Highdown School (didn't see you at the funeral Jan, why not?), and I have seen her behaviour in the Reading Labour Party, which managed to be underhand, duplicitous, misogynist and inept all at the same time. So I am entitled to an opinion about her as a politician now in public life, which she has begun by a piece of petulant whining which you will find on the strap line of this blog, not a good start. Oh and she's married to a drug dealer, who also happens to be a pompous, credulous git. Now, about those specifics...

Anonymous said...

Yes - SPECIFICS.
Could Anon who writes so much and thinks Jane is being so unfair and nasty, please spell out in clear, but not abusive language ( so we won't use words like 'piss' and 'crap') how she faield as an MP?

What was poor and unsatisfactory about her performance in this role? How and why did she suddenly beome so inept when, as Anon admits, he cheered when she won in 1997?Surely he was not just cheering out of blind hope? Even the audacity of hope? (see, I know my Obama!). Don't poeple select a PPC based on qualities either proven or perceived and if so, what qualities did Jane possess then that she shed so dramatically after her election?

Or did Anon and his friends just think that Reading East was unwinnable so any old idiot would do and if so, might as well be a woman idiot and an idiot called Jane Griffiths would fit the bill as well as any?

Isn't this nearer the truth, Anon?

If it isn't, please spell out Jane's failings loud and clear so AT LEAST WE CAN BE TOLD WHAT THEY ARE!!

I bet Jane would like to know too! I know I would!

Anonymous said...

"Or did Anon and his friends just think that Reading East was unwinnable so any old idiot would do"

Ummmm, you people are just a little paranoid... I had no involvement with Jane's selection or indeed deselection. I cheered because she was a female Labour MP elected in Reading and part of a great Labour victory. I assumed the local Labour Party selected her as a candidate because she had the skills etc needed to be a good MP. I held this view until I was proved otherwise.

"I bet Jane would like to know too! I know I would!"

Jane does know because I have told her. We diasgree and that's fine. She is entitled to her opinion. My original point thought is that I'd rather she didn't rubbish others until they have done something to deserve it.

Anonymous 14:00 "I held this view until I was proved otherwise."

Must do better. Proved? By what? What evidence do you have to back the statement up? I would be so pleased to read what had proved it to you.

Must I indeed? Interesting to me that you are so keen to defend the very thought that Jane could be imperfect and yet not utter a single word in defence of the women that she is ready to rubbish. My 'evidence' is the direct and personal experience of her when I lived in Reading East. Consequently, it is my opinion and of course, subjective to me. My point remains - that Jane is too ready to condem others before they have done anything. She obviously knows Jan Gavin better than I, so she is entitled to her opinion. But all the others?
