they've gone up in my estimation

yes I know the students are demonstrating in London today for THEMSELVES, they want Lots and Lots of Lovely Subsidy, but some at least can look to the wider world - and if you can't at that age then you are probably never going to:

they formed a human chain around the British Museum, a better place to do it than the Egyptian Embassy methinks

Yes - if events worldwide are not now encouraging them to be other than narrow Little Englanders there is no hope for the future.

All power to those who are taking a wider and more democratic view.

My student son thanks you so much for your endorsement and doesn't think you are the least bit patronising. I explained you were old and lived in France.

pity your son has to rely on his mum/dad to respond on line for him, still perhaps Mummy and Daddy can buy him a Nice Big Shiny iPad Make It All Better then he can do it All On His Own what a brave little soldier

I also told him that you got your education for free and then became an MP with all of those lovely free taxi rides.

ah well you told him wrong then, the teachers who taught me got paid and the people wo cleaned and maintained the university buildings got paid too - as for time as MP all taxi rides faken paid for, maybe where you live taxi drivers don't ask for money, but where I live they do, still well done little chap or chappess for paying attention
