an early bath?

worrying news has reached me from my person on the riverside. A meeting was scheduled re the future of the Kings Meadow Baths, and officers are trying to prevent it from going ahead, ostensibly because councillors up for re-election should not be getting publicity through the council process, but in fact because officers are being told, or believe, that Labour are going to take control next month. If Labour do take control there will be rapid and destructive development of the riverside, as has been Labour Group policy since 1991 to my knowledge. So, if you care about the Baths and the riverside, don't vote Labour in Reading, wherever in the Borough you live.

If readers of the Reading Post are in any way representative of the general population, Labour's prospects are not looking very good.

Partially correct about KMC. Bob is also a candidate so it's not just the lead councillor involved in the purdah period.

However, it Is perfectly true that there are a significamt number of council officers who believe that Labour will come riding to their tescue. I was told as much by a senior officer.

Don't vote Labour in Reading until the corrupt local party has been investigated and suspended as have others before it. OOpsie! Sorreee! This only happens if the CLP is the seat of a 'favoured' or 'special' one!!

Otherwise, corruption is, indeed, smiled upon.
So Jane's advice holds.

A lot of people have been affected by the Tory and Lib Dem cuts ot concessionary fares - the buses are empty between 9.0 and 9.30, their annual charge for green bins and their abolition of some SureStart schemes, so it should be advantageous for people to vote Labour, although I am not sure if Labour will reverse the cuts.

The important thing is to get rid of the corrupt leadership of Labour, not those Labour councillors who are excellent.
