congratulations

to all the Labour councillors elected yesterday.  No congratulations to the Reading boys who thought a racist dog-whistle campaign in Church ward was a good idea.  Desperate men.  Especially no congratulations to George Dickhead Loughlin who, at the Reading count last night, thought it was a good idea to head-butt a former councillor from another party, who was only saved from serious injury by the physical intervention of one Dave Peasley - if there was a pub fight near me I'd be glad if Dave was minded to intervene.  And no congratulations to M. Salter for his co-authorship of the racist dog-whistle leaflet in Church ward.   Even he wasn't bragging about it when he turned up at the Reading count, unshaven and slobbish and staying well away from Church ward. Update: but he got into the victory photo, looming over her from behind, bad idea. I was especially pleased  to see Daya Pal Singh and Rose Williams elected.  Rose needs no hints from anyone on how to be a good representative.  I just hope the boys let D.P. Singh get on with the job.  I know he will do a good one.   And Tony Jones always spreads a little happiness wherever he goes in politics, so Good News.

The new Labour councillor for Caversham - if the same gang of malevolent lard-arses is still there in Caversham Labour then I wish you luck.  You are going to need it.

Azam Janjua - thanks for all your work for the people of south Reading, and Reading as a whole.  It was a privilege to work with you, and the people of Church ward were luc ky to have you as their representative.

Now, about that Labour vision for Reading ...

Good of you to acknowledge the work that Azam did in Church ward.
Contrast these with the bitter comments of defeated Jamie Chowdhary who says "This is reflected by the fact that not one of the three Conservative Councillors [which include Azam] who lost their seats last night had actually done anything worthwhile during their term in office and were appropriately despatched by the voters."

Lol - I know your writing fiction now but I'm afraid there was no head-butting at the count (I think we'd all remember) - instead there was 3 hours of chatter amongst all the parties while we waited for the results to come in. In regards 'Gareth Epps' he shouted something then was escorted out, LibDem activists then came over and apologised saying he did not speak for the rest of them. He's perhaps under pressure because he knows that his favourite saying 'hapless Rob Wilson' has turned into 'hapless Gareth Epps' - his political career is over and the LibDems in Reading absolutely don't want him to be the parliamentary candidate in 2015.

Apparently the Caversham campaign appeared to be run by young labour members according to one Tory I spoke to.

ooh excellent Anon 0333, hope you had a good night, maybe Dave Peasley and others are lying, who are the "we" who would "all" remember, pray tell? And I just LOVE the "your writing fiction" in case anyone had any doubt about "your" identity! Yippee, your better off with Labour!

and anon 0405 that might explain the victory, people actually doing some work, I see the malevolent lard-arses turned out for the victory photo though

Much as I'd like it to be true, I'm afraid I have to agree with 03:33 and express my disappointment that there was no head-butting.

Where's Basher when you need him?

Caversham is definitely one of the stories of the night, and not just for being a surprise win.

Anon 0405 is right - it was a ward targeted by a small group of Young Labour members. It all stemmed from the selections way back, when several Young Labour members stood but didn't get selected. Some YLs alleged a campaign to keep them out, though really there was no substance to this allegation: they were just simply up against people of more experience, like Rose Williams and D.P. Singh.

But, convinced there was a campaign, this small group of some YLs decided to show up everyone and prove their worth, by targeting Caversham for a win. Many thought them bitter and everyone thought their campaign would be futile.

But, even those who thought them bitter can't help but be awed by the fact they actually did it. They fought very hard, and it'll be interesting to see how said group are treated going forward.

Judging from the way their agent Dave Absolom kept buzzing about him I'd definitely say it was the Thames candidate (Duncan Bruce) who was in charge of Caversham campaign with the Young Labour lot in tow.

In fairness to them (and you can't say it about much of the Labour lot) they were friendly on the night chatting with Dave, Andrew and Tom and I know Dave told the press that they'd run a positive campaign with no personal attacks simply focusing on local issues (how different from the disgraceful campaign in Church ward!).

then let's hope that a new generation is leaving the corrupt ways of the old one behind. And I share Was/s disappointment that there was no head-butting - the alleged recipient said on Facebook there was, and it would be entirely in character for the wee Jock bastard

It would appear that Thursday was a very friendly evening all round according to those who were there. Please keep us updated on what you learn from facebook all the way over there in the Alsace.

hmmm, interested to read your comments on Iraq, Israel, Palestine, Gaza, from all the way over there in Reading
